Sorry Mother Nature; Please Don’t Revenge

Categories Human Nature, Meditation, Nature, Science

Sorry, on behalf of the human race for taking you for granted and seriously disturbing your spatial configuration.

We have done this through our reckless living whereby we have extravagantly exploited natural resources like water, forest, minerals, and fossil fuels.

We have depleted trees and other flora and replaced then with concrete.

We have depleted biodiversity such as soil fauna and replaced them with chemicals.

This has resulted in disappearance of most of the forest and wetlands; and intense pollution of land and rivers.

Sorry for scorning you by continuing to operate as if the earth’s environment is a subset of our human needs; as if the earth belongs to us.

You may fume all you want but please be kind to us when you remind us who is supreme.

Please find it in your heart to be gentle with us when you remind us that all our endeavours are vanity.

Please forgive us when we worship the possessions that we have, not realizing that they all belong to God; we are just stewards of His property.

You may explode all you want but please be lenient when you send calamities to remind us that you have many options for possessing back the resources that we grab.

Options such as the erupting volcano in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which has sent us fleeing from what we thought was our land.

Options like the recent raging fires in places like California, Oregon, Cape Town and Australia.

Options like the rising water levels of lakes and rivers in Germany, Belgium, Kenya and the Sudan; thus consuming the land and property that we thought was our own.

Options like the succession of virulent viruses, including Sars, Bird Flu, Ebola, Mers and the current Covid-19 where none of our distinguished scientists can predict with certainty what will happen next during the course of the pandemic.

Please save us from your fury; I am sorry, on behalf of humanity, for treating you badly, Mother Nature.

Save us from ourselves.

I am an epic introvert, who quickly becomes an open book when I pen what’s in my significantly fertile mind; fertile as a result of bombardment by realities that are continuously captured by my inquisitive eyes, ears which are constantly rubbing the ground, through constant reading, and through dreaming too.

Writing provides an opportunity to ‘say’ what my unapologetic quiet mouth will not say; which not only soothes me, but also bequeaths to me a relief, a release, and a hope that the written words will change the world, even if only one person at a time.

And so should you seek, that’s where to find me; deeply tucked inside the blankets of reading, seeing, listening, dreaming, and then writing.
